Ticket sales for female comedians' shows have tripled in two years after Sarah Millican secured the top spot in the list of best-selling women in 2013, followed by Miranda Hart and Dawn French.
Comedy critic Bruce Dessau said that he knew that there were more female comedians performing but this dramatic increase clearly demonstrated that there is a huge demand for funny women, Metro.co.uk reported.
Comedian Shappi Khorsandi said that it's great to see the surge in female comedians, stamping out the prejudice and added that they have still further to go, though.
Khorsandi continued that she would like to see more female comics enjoying the equal success and dominance that men do on the bigger stages.
