US fears more 9/11 style Qaeda attacks if militants not eliminated on Pak-Afghan border

Al Qaeda could launch 9/11 like terror attacks again if Pakistan and Afghanistan fail to curb extremist activities on the Pak-Afghan border, says a U.S. general.

Gen Dunford Commander of U.S. and allied forces in Pakistan said that success in Afghanistan depended on Pakistan's successful operation in clearing militants from the border area.

He also said that all forces did not support U.S. President Barack Obama's decision to withdraw American troops by 2017.

Dunford added that Afghanistan needed to build an efficient special operations force that could fight terrorism.

Afghanistan, even after more than a decade of terrorism campaign by the U.S., offers a safe shelter for terrorists, he said.

 

According to the Dawn, the commander also said that the U.S. was working towards its scheduled plan in the matter.
