Australia Market closes softer, hit by drop in commodities stocks

Australia stock market finished session lower on Tuesday, 5 June 2018, , 25 May 2018, despite positive leads from Wall Street overnight, with shares in materials and energy issues led losses on soft commodity prices outweighing a relief rally for banks after Commonwealth settled a civil lawsuit filed by financial intelligence agency AUSTRAC. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index fell by 31 points, or 0.5%, to 5995, and the broader All Ordinaries index fell 30.1 points, or 0.49% to 6,108.5 points. Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 708 to 538 and 388 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 60.29% to 11.852.
