5.6-magnitude quake hits 74 km off New Zealand

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted 74km off Castlepoint, New Zealand, on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said.

The epicentre, with a depth of 10km, was initially determined to be at 40.5957 degrees south latitude and 177.0091 degrees east longitude, Xinhua reported.

No casualties have been been reported so far.
