Over 900 cases of dengue, as compared to 55 in the same period last year, have been reported from across the capital this season. Two people succumbed to the vector-borne virus, officials said here Friday.

"There are 912 confirmed dengue patients who are undergoing treatment in city hospitals. Two deaths are confirmed," N.K. Yadav, medical health officer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, said.

Dengue symptoms include fever, headache, muscle, joint pain and a skin rash that is similar to measles.

In rare cases, the disease develops into life-threatening dengue haemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or dengue shock syndrome, characterised by dangerously low blood pressure.
