Army officer drowns in Kashmir

An army officer slipped into the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir and drowned, the military said Friday.

The incident took place Thursday night at Gobind Ghat at Akhnoor when Major D.S. Bhinder went to the river bank, an official statement said. "He

accidentally slipped and fell into the river."

The officer, from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, was swept away by strong currents.
