BSF troopers on Tuesday seized weapons and ammunition, including three AK-47 assault rifles and hand grenades, found dumped in Dera Baba Nanak Sector of Punjab, BSF officials said.

"We seized three Chinese-made AK-47 rifles along with six magazines, 150 rounds of ammunition, six hand grenades and two Chinese .30 bore pistols and two magazines, 100 rounds of other ammunition at the Kassowal border outpost in Gurdaspur district in north-west Punjab with the help of sniffer dogs," Border Security Force Deputy Inspector General Rajesh Sharma told the media.

The cache was packed in a bag and buried in fields close to the border with Pakistan. BSF officials said the weapons could have been smuggled from Pakistan.

The BSF and Punjab Police are investigating for whom the weapons were meant.

Punjab shares a 553-km barbwired border with Pakistan.
