Five Afghan soldiers were killed and seven others were injured when aircraft of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) dropped bombs in Afghanistan's Logar province Thursday, a local official said.

"The aircraft of ISAF dropped bombs in Bandoka area of Charkh district at 3 a.m. local time today, leaving five soldiers dead and injuring seven others," spokesman for provincial administration Deen Mohammad Darvish told Xinhua.

Without giving more details, he added that a team has been sent to the area to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, Charkh district governor Khalilullah Kamal confirmed the incident but said five Afghan soldiers were killed and 17 others were wounded in the air strikes, which took place early morning.

Afghan defence ministry spokesman Zahir Azimi, in talks with Xinhua, confirmed the incident and in a short response said, "I confirm it". But he did not give more details.
