Garo militant killed in Meghalaya

A Garo militant was Wednesday killed in a gunfight with security forces in Meghalaya, police said.
The gun battle which lasted an hour took place at a hilltop in Pakregre village in East Garo Hills district.
An unidentified militant - suspected to be of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) - was killed, while two others escaped, district police chief Davies Marak told IANS.
A pistol, a high-frequency wireless set, three mobile handsets and incriminating documents were recovered from the site, police said.
The GNLA is fighting for a separate Garoland to be carved out of Meghalaya.
