Gunfight between security forces, guerrillas in Kashmir

A gunfight took place Thursday evening between security forces and holed up guerrillas in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Acting on a tip about the presence of militants in Chanigam village, police from Kulgam and a battalion each from the Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force launched a cordon and search operation, a police official said here.

The joint team was fired at by the militants, triggering a gun battle.
