Iraq's defence minister escapes sniper fire

Iraq's Defence Minister Khalid al-Obeidi on Monday escaped an assassination attempt in Iraq's Salahudin province, a defence ministry statement said.

The sniper fire near the battleground town of Baiji in Salahudin province left one of his guards injured, Xinhua quoted the statement as stating.
