Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has sought Rs.3,000 crore from the coal ministry as compensation for acquiring more than 24,000 acres of land in the state.

"Coal India Limited (CIL) acquired more than 24,000 acres of the state government and did not pay any compensation. The compensation will be more than Rs.3,000 crore and if interest is added, then it will cross Rs.10,000 crore," said Soren in a press conference here Friday.

He said, "The central government should pay the amount for development of the state."

The chief minister said CIL is doing mining in the state without renewing the lease.

"The 30-year mining lease of CIL companies ended in 2002 and the companies are doing mining without proper licence," said Soren.
