The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) in Pakistan has decided to commence a movement against the formation of military courts to try terror suspects in the country.
The LHCBA, which announced its vehement opposition to the idea of military courts Wednesday, has also summoned a meeting of members of the legal fraternity to discuss their reservations in this regard, Dawn online reported.
There is no room in the Constitution for establishing military courts, said LHCBA secretary Mian Ahmad Chachar.
The secretary said the law body would also register a protest against the formation of these courts and is prepared to go to any length in order to create obstacles in this regard.
Last week, a meeting of parliamentary leaders at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad reached a consensus over the issue of setting up military courts for tackling terrorism cases in the country.
These have since become a subject of controversy, with certain political parties already expressing reservations on the proposed establishment of military courts.
