Normal life was hit here on Saturday following a shutdown called by traders against the torching of a flag with Islamic verses in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri town.

Shops, businesses and educational institutions were shut in Srinagar. Some public and private transport, however, plied.

Government offices, banks and post offices reported less than normal attendance.

Traders called the shutdown after some people torched the flag, said to be that of the Islamic State, on July 18.

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the moderate wing of the Hurriyat headed by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq supported the protest call.
