Punjab procures 80 lakh tonnes of wheat

Food grain producing state Punjab has procured 80 lakh tonnes of wheat worth Rs.4,200 crore in this season, an official said on Monday.

Government agencies procured 79.04 lakh tonnes of wheat, whereas the private millers procured 1.20 lakh tonnes till date, said a spokesman for the state food and supplies department.

Punjab is the biggest contributor (over 60 percent) of food grain to the national kitty despite having just 1.54 percent of the country's geographical area.
