Punjab schools to be shut on Monday

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday declared a school holiday on Monday in view of the "strenuous preparations" by children for Independence Day functions across the state.

Thousands of children from government and private schools at various places had been preparing for days in advance for the parade and functions that marked the Independence Day celebrations on Saturday.
