Roji M. John, a youth Congress activist from Kerala, was Wednesday elected the national president of National Students Union of India, the student wing of the Congress.

John was elected to the post with 36 of 62 office bearers of NSUI voting in his favour.

Amrita Dhawan (Delhi), Mohit Sharma (Uttarakhand) and Kumar Raja (Jharkhand) were named national vice presidents.

A total of 34 state presidents and 28 national office bearers of NSUI across the country participated in voting.

All the office bearers of NSUI, including the newly-elected president and vice presidents, paid a courtesy call on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi at his residence.

John succeeds Rohit Choudhary. In 2011, John was appointed as NSUI's national vice president.
