The Delhi government on Friday notified 'The Delhi Anand Marriages Rules 2018' under which marriages of Sikhs would be registered in the capital, instead of the Hindu Marriage Act, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said.
"Delhi government notifies The Delhi Anand Marriages Rules, 2018. Long pending demand of the Sikh community fulfilled," Gahlot said in a tweet.
Gahlot added that the government is committed to "work for protection of rights of all communities".
"This is a 110-year-old demand by the Sikh community. It was taken up by us (AAP) in the Assembly (Delhi) in 2015 and this happened due to Kejriwal's initiative," said AAP MLA Jarnail Singh.
