Sikhs can now register weddings under 'Anand Marriages Rules' in Delhi

The government on Friday notified 'The Anand Marriages Rules 2018' under which marriages of Sikhs would be registered in the capital, instead of the Hindu Act, said.

"government notifies The Delhi Anand Marriages Rules, 2018. Long pending demand of the Sikh community fulfilled," Gahlot said in a tweet.

Till now, though Sikhs got married through the ceremony of 'Anand Karaj', their was validated using Act in the city.

Gahlot added that the government is committed to "work for protection of rights of all communities".

Meanwhile, both the ruling as well as the sought to take credit for the move.

"This is a 110-year-old demand by the Sikh community. It was taken up by us (AAP) in the Assembly (Delhi) in 2015 and this happened due to Kejriwal's initiative," said MLA Jarnail Singh.

Meanwhile BJP MLA Majinder Singh Sirsa credited for the development.

"We wholeheartedly thank ji for implementing Anand Marriage Act in Delhi. This action has fulfilled 110-years old pending demand of Sikhs," he said in a tweet.
