New Delhi, April 19 (IANS) The social media was Friday abuzz with people condemning the brutal rape of a five-year-old girl in Delhi, just four months after the gang-rape and death of a young woman shook the country.

"Delhi Police bk in d dock over its response to Child Rape case. Unable to win d trust of d people. Whose responsible? (sic)" former IPS officer Kiran Bedi tweeted.

Activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal said: "Rapes continue unabated in Delhi. Shouldn't police commissioner be sacked?"

"Can we sack the lust& mentality of men too?" asked another tweet.

People also were unequivocal in their condemnation of the senior police official who slapped a woman protestor at the Swami Dayanand hospital where the child was being treated.

BJP leader Sushma Swaraj tweeted: "I had thought that after the Damini case thinking will change."

She added: "I see an ACP slapping a young girl protesting against this (rape). These policemen are incapable of protecting women. Instead, they beat them up. I had thought that after (the) Damini case (Delhi gang-rape) thinking will change. Unfortunately, the situation has worsened."

Another tweet by Amit Saharan tweeted: "Let's talk to ACP, Khajuri Khas, B.S. Ahlawat wat made him to slap dat girl protestor brutally instead of catching d rapist" (sic).

Gururaj S. @Equateall tweeted: "I wish you can have a commissioner who prevents every rape. What a dream! Do you have any jadoo ki chadi (magic wand)?"

Another tweet said: "All those protests and new laws have not been able to stop a toddler being brutally sexually assaulted in Delhi. Shocking beyond words."

"I feel sick," Sujata commented on facebook.
