An international team of child artists from 12 countries presented a colourful colourful ballet "Chipollino", guided by Russian choreographer Galina Lyakhova here today.
The event, based on music by noted Russian composer Karen Khachaturyan witnessed performance by over 160 children from Russia, India, China, Japan, Denmark, US, France, Australia, Israel, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The performance was organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture at the Siri Fort auditorium.
Based on popular 20th century Italian fairytale "Chipollino" by Gianni Rodari, story of the ballet revolves around the life of the Garden Kingdom and a victorious fight of a Little Onion-Chipollino-and his companions, fellow vegetables, against the ill-treatment executed by the fruit royalty, led by Prince Lemon and Senior Tomato.
The performance is conducted in the backdrop of a computerised slideshow by Sabina Nijhavan.
The best performers of the year- Sanjana Bambany, Shinjouli Adhikari, Shreya Goel, Oorgita Sur, Ranini De and Pradeep Singh were also felicitated today.
Costumes for the ballet were created by Galina Lyakhov and executed by Zingrin Company team, with make up team led by Magnaina.
The performance by students of the School of Russian Classical Ballet is an annual feature.
In the previous years, the Delhiites had the opportunity to witness such ballets as "The Sleeping Beauty" and "Nut-Cracker" by Peter Tchaikovsky, and "The MidSummer Night's Dream" by Felix Mendelssohn.
For the next year Galina Lyakhova plans to stage a ballet "The Fairy Doll" by Josef Bayer.
