Three techies were among the five people arrested near here on Friday for cyber fraud, police said.
Those arrested from the satellite township of Salt Lake included shopkeeper Rajorshi Deb, who used to buy electronics goods like laptops and mobile phones from the three arrested techies - who bought them with the money they acquired criminally. An employee at Deb's shop has also been taken into custody.
The matter came to light after a woman lodged a complaint on September 19 alleging that she was the victim of cyber fraud.
She early last month had received a message on her phone stating her debit card had been blocked. The message contained a number that was to be called for unblocking the card.
The woman called the number and on September 14 received a message from her bank intimating that an amount of Rs.39,142 has been debited from her account.
