Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay will interact with Chinese scholars and students in Washington in his bid to develop mutual trust and cooperation.

During his visit to the US, Sangay will attend a dialogue with the Chinese people in Washington on Tuesday.

The dialogue is being organised by the Initiatives for China, a global grassroots level movement dedicated to advancing a peaceful transition to democracy in China, said a statement from the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).

Sangay was specially invited by Yang Jianli, founder and president of the Initiatives for China, to build mutual trust and cooperation between the Chinese communities worldwide and the Tibetan people.

Sangay will also visit Toronto in Canada, where he will meet the local Tibetan community, dignitaries and officials.

With Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama stepping down from diplomacy and active politics, Sangay, the elected leader of Tibetan people, has acquired added stature.

The Dalai Lama has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959. The Tibetan administration in exile is based in this northern Indian hill town.
