Two die in Ichhapur Metal and Steel Factory blast

Two persons, who were injured in a blast at the Metal and Steel Factory in Ichhapur of North 24 Parganas district, died at the Command Hospital here, a defence ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Phalguni Banerjee (37) and Bablu Majumdar (50), had sustained serious injuries in the blast at the 20 tonne furnace on Saturday.

They succumbed to their injuries on Sunday, said the spokesperson.

Seven others admitted to the hospital following the furnace blast are now out of danger.

A fact-finding committee has been set up to investigate the cause of the accident, he added.
