It was an absolute delight to read the article, "The soft skills trap" (May 2), by Ajit Balakrishnan. I'm glad the article has given this concept of overemphasis on "soft skill" so much thought and brought such a different perspective to the table. The way the argument has been substantiated with theoretical as well as empirical research is commendable.
I also admire the concluding suggestion, as to how case studies should substitute the drudgery of memorising formulae, which computers can do for us in a wink. What is important now is to analyse what computers are showing us. This has been the topic of my regular coffee-table discussions with peers, as we all sob with the realisation that we are never "good enough" for any company.
I would like to thank the author for writing the article and request him for suggestions so that we can make the authorities listen to these.
