Letters: Blowin' in the wind

This refers to Sunita Narain’s ‘Carbon capture strategy’, June 19. We first burn carbon and then try to find solutions like carbon capture. But a carbon capture strategy (CCS) cannot be a solution to our problem and we should not waste our energy, money and time on its adoption. What is needed is a strong techno-economic alternative to the coal/oil-based thermal power for its total eradication.

We should increase the production of wind-power and reduce its capital cost by at least half — this will ensure it emerges as a strong alternative to thermal power.
