Apropos the reports "Phase-I of Navi Mumbai airport to be completed by 2018 (February 6) and "Will bid for Navi Mumbai airport, says GVK Infra" (February 7), following the inauguration of the T2, things have started moving for the Navi Mumbai airport project. The government should simultaneously announce the latest development in its projects to strengthen the transport links between the city and Navi Mumbai. Long back, a variety of projects were envisaged to improve the transport links between these two locations. One of them was the Mumbai Trans Harbour Rail, and the road bridge connecting Nava Shewa to Sewri. The state dropped the rail portion without citing any reasons, and the road bridge still faces hiccups. The metro and monorail projects in the city and those in Navi Mumbai under construction are stand-alone projects. Linking all these projects would be helpful for reaping optimum benefits. Will the government explain how it proposes to tackle the connectivity problem between the twin cities when the Navi Mumbai airport gets ready in a few years?
