This refers to T N Ninan's column "An Economic Manifesto" (Weekend Ruminations, February 8). The manifesto provides all the points that are necessary for achieving economic freedom for the citizens. Political freedom without economic freedom is meaningless in a democratic society like India. The problem we face today is not the lack of knowledge but the political willpower to implement that knowledge. After the previous general elections, it is clear that no single party would gain absolute majority, and only an alliance of political parties with different ideologies would be able to form the government. Even with an absolute majority the Congress did not implement some of the ideas mentioned by the author, and instead opted for populism to retain, and continue in power.
