Wanted: Astrologers for GST

At a conference on taxation, organised by an industry chamber in New Delhi recently, the session on Goods and Services Tax (GST) saw more questions from the audience than answers from the panel of experts addressing the session.

To a specific query on the impact of the GST on a particular industry segment, the exasperated expert chairing the session said, "To figure out the full impact, you need to ask an astrologer." Clearly, limited visibility on likely GST rates and the uncertainty around its roll-out date have kept even experts on tenterhooks.
