The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged dacoits were rearing their heads and unleashing terror in the arid Bundelkhand region under the ‘weak’ Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh.
Recently, dacoits had killed three persons in Bundelkhand, which is facing severe drought conditions and water scarcity.
BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the bandits were reorganising in Bundelkhand, owing to the lax administration and willpower of the ruling dispensation and political patronage of the outlaws.
He maintained the dacoits were extorting money from people in the absence of effective policing and control.
He lamented while on the one hand, the population in Bundelkhand region was facing starvation due to crop damage and drought, they were now also facing the bullets of the brigands.

Making light of the government’s claims of better policing, he claimed UP Police did not inspire confidence among people anymore under the present Samajwadi Party rule.
The cops are getting assaulted freely and pelted with stones even as musclemen become audacious, Pathak said. “Akhilesh rule has turned into mafia rule.”
He alleged cattle smugglers feared no action and were targetting cops at will in Rampur, Mainpuri, Etah, Bareilly and Pilibhit districts.
“The cops are being attacked by cattle mafia and their vehicles damaged. However, the culprits behind these incidents are not booked due to their political linkages,” the BJP leader said.
