Asset-based poverty scheme leads to more consumption: J-PAL

A study conducted in six countries by the The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), a centre in the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), shows that ultra poor programme similar to that run by microfinance institution, Bandhan, in India, has led to statistically significant, cost-effective impacts on consumption. The impact on the poor households lasted at least a year after the implementation ended, the study said.
