Vocalist dead

gharana Manas Chakraborty died today after a brief illness, his family said.

Chakraborty was 71. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, his nephew Biswabrata Chakraborty told PTI over phone.

Son of illustrious father Sangeetacharya Tarapada Chakraborty, he was an accomplished music director, composer, lyricist and poet.

He was a winner of Dishari, Maharshi, Girija Shankar Memorial and Jadubhatta awards.
