1 killed, 43 injured in bus mishap in Chamba

One person was killed and 43 others injured when a private bus fell into a gorge at Dugnala area in Chamba district today, police said.

There were 44 passengers on board when the mishap occurred.

The deceased, who succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, was identified as Vikram Singh, a resident of Mehli village, while 35 of the injured were admitted to DR RP Medical College, Tanda (Kangra).

The condition of four of the injured persons was stated to be critical while eight others with minor injuries are undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Sinhuta.

Meanwhile Chamba Deputy Commissioner Sudesh Mokhta said officials of the Bhattiyat Subdivision immediately rushed to the spot to supervise rescue and relief rescue operations.
 

Immediate relief of Rs 1.02 lakh had been provided to the next of kin of the deceased and the injured, the DC said.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the cause of the accident.
