About 102 recruits of the 95 Recruit Course of The Brigade of The Guards today attained the status of combat soldier at a solemn passing out parade ceremony here.

The young guardsmen earned the status after a strenuous 34-week training.

Keeping with the age old tradition, they were administered the oath of allegiance and devotion to duty by the Adjutant.

As they crossed the symbolic last step in slow march to the tune of the band, the recruits formally attained the status of combat soldiers ready for frontline duties.

Brigade of The Guards was conceived on the lines of the British Cold Stream Guards by late Field Marshal K M Cariappa, OBE. The Regiment has been bestowed with 10 Battle Honours (post Independence), a release from Defence PRO, said today.

Lieutenant General Sanjeev Chopra, Director General Perspective Planning, Army Headquarters and The Colonel of The Brigade of The Guards was the chief guest and reviewed the parade.
