Organisers say 11 people have been hospitalised following a crash at the senior Isle of Man TT motorcycle race.

The injuries range from "slight to serious" with none believed to be life-threatening.

The bike of rider Jonathan Howarth careered into spectators during a crash on the first lap of the race today. Howarth was unhurt.

Red flags were brought out to halt the race, which was expected to restart at 1630 local time.

Inspector Derek Flint of Isle of Man police constabulary told The Associated Press that police won't be investigating the matter because no one died.

Fatalities are common in the Isle of Man races, which are held on more than 37 miles of public roads around the island in the Irish Sea.
