12 pacemakers fitted in a day at govt hospital in West Bengal

A total of 12 patients were fitted with pacemakers in a single day at a state government run hospital in West Bengal's Nadia district, hospital authorities said on Wednesday.
It is a world record, claimed Abhijit Mukherjee, the Superintendent of the Gandhi Memorial Hospital where these operations were performed.
A 10-member team of doctors led by cardiology department head Chandan Misra performed 12 surgeries in 7 hours and 40 minutes to achieve the feat, Mukherjee said.
"It generally takes 45 minutes to fit a pacemaker. But in one case, the operation was completed within 20 minutes. No complexities have arisen as a result of the surgeries," Mishra said.
The surgeries were piled up due to short supply of pacemakers and they operations were performed between 11.20 am and 7 pm on Monday.
The hospital head said, "Misra's team generally fits five to six pacemakers every day."
Misra's team had earlier performed 34 coronary angiography on August 16, 2017.
Sanjay Majumder, a patient from North 24 Parganas' Halisahar, said he is well after the surgery.
