14 child labourers rescued; jewellery makers booked

As many as 14 child labourers, most of them hailing from West Bengal and pushed to work in jewellery shops here, were rescued today, an official said.

"Fourteen children working with ten jewellers were freed from Sarafa market in jointly conducted raids by a non-governmental organisation called Child Line, the Lour Department, the Women and Child Welfare Department as well as the police," District Child Protection Officer Bhagwandas Sahu told PTI.

He said that the rescued children aged between ten and 14 years and most of them belong to West Bengal.

Child Line would take of the children until the District Child Welfare Committee makes the final decision about their rehabilitation, Sahu said.
 

He said that owners of jewellery establishments who had employed these children have been booked and further investigations are underway.
