Fifteen city-based people have come forward to take up the responsibility of sponsoring the cost of education and living expenses of as many needy and specially-abled children.

A social organisation named Hetu carried out an adoption programme yesterday in suburban Malad, where the 15 people came forward and took up the responsibility of these poor children, including girls.

Rikhabh Jain, the mentor of this organisation, said it was the second consecutive year of its initiative.

"Last year, 21 kind-hearted affluent people had come forward to bear the expenses of education and livelihood of as many children," Jain said.

"It has always been our goal to work for the last-man of the society by connecting them with society's eminent and kind-hearted people. Our target is to help 100 deserving specially-abled unprivileged children this way," he added.

The organisation also holds four programmes in a year, where the adopters can meet the children, he said.
