The by-election for the post of mayor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) today witnessed just 18.54 per cent voter turnout.
Even though many workshops were organised and appeals by district election officials made to the people to cast their votes, the polling was just 18.54 per cent, District Election Officer (DEO) Vimal Kumar Sharma said.
A total of 11,77,276 electorate including 5,19,157 women were eligible to exercise their franchise in the mayoral poll but only 2,18,314 cast their votes. The seat is reserved for OBC category.
