2 injured in group clash, vehicles torched

Two people were injured in a clash between two groups at Vedaranyam, near here, and some vehicles were set on fire, police said on Sunday.

A statue of Dalit leader Dr Ambedkar was also damaged following the clash and the groups hurled stones at the police personnel when they tried to bring the situation under control.

Tension prevailed in the area and armed policemen were sent to the spot.

The reason for the clash was under investigation, the police said.
