3-year-old toddler donates organs

A three-year-old baby girl, who was declared brain dead, today became the youngest organ donor in Kerala after her liver, kidneys and cornea were harvested by doctors at a hospital here.

The toddler, who was suffering from a disease fainted while playing in front of her house and was rushed to hospital on Friday. Her condition deteriorated and she was declared brain dead by doctors at SAT hospital, hospital officials said.

After her relatives expressed a desire to donate her organs, doctors harvested her liver, kidneys and cornea early this morning.

The liver and kidneys were transplanted on a five-year-old boy, officials said.
