A 52-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Chak Hakeem village here, police said today.
The deceased, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, was mentally perturbed and was undergoing medical treatment for the same, they said.
"She tied her 'dupatta' around her neck and then tied it with the ceiling fan in the house and hung herself to death yesterday," a police official said.
"She took the step when other members of her family were not present in the house," they said.
The body was found by Kaur's son Harjinder when he returned home, following which police was informed, they added.
The post-mortem has been conducted and the body handed over to the family, police said.
