6 killed, 7 injured as truck rams into autorickshaws in AP

Six labourers were killed and seven others seriously injured when a tipper truck rammed into two parked autorickshaws in Krishna district in the wee hours today, police said.

The mishap took place at Tukkuluru village of Nuzvid mandal in the district.

The victims, nearly 30 members of a group, were travelling to Goggula Mangamma temple in West Godavari district for which they engaged two autorickshaws last night.

While they were returning home, one autorickshaw developed a snag and was stopped for repair. The other three-wheeler also stopped to wait for the vehicle to be repaired near Tukkulru village.

At that time, a tipper truck loaded with concrete slabs came speeding in the dark and rammed one of the autorickshaws while crashing into the other, killing six people and seriously injuring seven others, police said.
 

The deceased were identified as K Ch Venkateswara Rao (70), G Srinu (35), G Krishna Kishore (30), P Veeraiah (45), K Srinu (40) and P Rani (22), all daily wage labourers belonging to Thota village.

The injured were admitted to Nuzvid Government Hospital.

Nuzvid rural police registered a case under relevant sections, and investigation was underway, police added.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister N Chinna Rajappa asked the district police for a detailed report in the accident.

Krishna District Collector A Babu told to PTI total six people died in this mishap and that the state government has announced Rs five lakh ex-gratia to each of their families.
