6 tubewells sealed off in Gurgaon

District administration authorities today sealed off six tubewells that were being illegally operated by some persons for extracting and selling groundwater for construction activities.

An action was initiated into the matter following receiving of complaints by Deputy Commissioner T L Satya Prakash pertaining illegal extraction of groundwater.

The senior police officer directed a team led by hydrologist M S Lamba to inspect and take action against anyone found guilty.

Lamba and his team today made a swoop on the tubewells and caught some persons selling groundwater.

Out of the six tubewells sealed today, two were being operated by Balwan, a resident of Sikanderpur Badha village.
 

One tubewell was sealed in Sikanderpur Badha.

Three other tubewells, belonging to Vatika Group in Sector 83, were sealed off in the evening. The groundwater drawn from these tubewells was being used by the Vatika group at its construction sites.

An FIR was lodged against those involved in the illegal extraction of groundwater.

The Central Ground Water Authority has declared entire Gurgaon district a "dark zone" in terms of groundwater overexploitation.

The Punjab & Haryana High Court has also ordered a ban on illegal extraction of groundwater and its use in construction activities.

DC Satya Prakash said raids on tubewells illegally extracting and selling groundwater would continue and strict action will be taken against the accused persons.

The High Court orders will be followed meticulously, the Deputy Commissioner said.
