650 kg of poppy straw seized in Rajasthan

650 kg of poppy straw was seized from two locations in Rajasthan by anti-narcotics sleuths.

In the first instance, 371.5 kg of poppy straw was recovered from an SUV in Udaipur area while a little over 274 kg was found in another vehicle in Ajmer by officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in coordination with state police, a senior official said.

Both the seizures took place yesterday.

Poppy straw is used to extract morphine and is smuggled along India's western border with Pakistan.

The agencies are investigating further, the official added.
