In a daylight robbery, eight unidentified armed assailants robbed a businessman and his family of jewellery worth Rs two lakh and Rs 25,000 cash from their house in Loni area of the district.
The incident took place this afternoon when Anand, who runs a business of tyres, was at his house along with his family, police said.
"Some miscreants entered Anand's residence and held him and his entire family hostage at gunpoint. They robbed jewellery worth Rs two lakh and Rs 25,000," a senior police officer said, adding that the accused also thrashed Anand when he tried to resist their robbery attempt.
"After the incident, they fled the spot before locking them in house from outside," he said.
Based on the complaint filed by Anand, a case has been registered at Loni police station.
"Police are now scanning footage of CCTV cameras installed in nearby area to identify the accused and nab them," the officer said.
