9-yr-old girl murdered after rape in Punjab

A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped and then murdered by an unidentified person here, police said today.

The girl, a class third student and resident of Kalyanpur village of Rupnagar district, did not return home after school yesterday, Station House Officer (SHO) of Kiratpur Sahib Police Station Raminder Singh Kahlon said.

Her body was today found in the bushes near her school, he said.

As per preliminary medical reports, it is suspected to be a case of rape. A case under relevant sections of the IPC, including sections 376-A (rape) and 302 (murder), has been registered against unidentified persons, the SHO said.
