90-year-old woman recovers from stroke after Thrombolysis

A 90-year old woman has fully recovered from a stroke after she was treated with Thrombolysis, doctors at a city-based hospital attending on her claimed here today.

Thrombolytic therapy is the use of drugs to break up or dissolve blood clots, which are the main cause of both heart attacks and strokes, Dr Vinit Suri, Senior Consultant Neurology of Indraprasta Apollo Hospital, told reporters.

He claimed Harsharan Kaur has fully recovered from stroke in an hour of being treated by Thrombolysis, which is normally prescribed for patients between age group of 18 to 80, Dr Suri said.

Kaur had suffered a brain stroke due to which she had suffered complete paralysis of left arm and left leg. She also could not turn her eyes to the left.
 

"She was rushed to hospital within two hours of the stroke, where doctors administered her with Intravenous Thrombolysis to dissolve the blood clot in the brain," claimed Suri, adding the patient responded well to the treatment and regained near complete strength in the her left arm and leg over the next one hour.
