A 30-year old mason from Orissa was beaten up by locals for allegedly misbehaving with two women on the road at Jaraganahalli here, a senior police official said.

The incident happened last evening when the man was returning home from work and his shoulders touched one of the two women walking from the opposite direction. The women then mistook him as a miscreant, following which locals beat him, DCP South B S Lokesh Kumar said.

Police said a case of assault has been booked against those involved in beating the man and no case has been booked against him as none, including the women, have come forward to lodge any complaint.

The man who was injured is now fine after medical care and is out of hospital, police said.
