A doctor at AIIMS lost Rs 30,000 from his bank account in a phishing attack by suspected Pakistani hackers with the money found to have been used to recharge some mobile phones in eastern Uttar Pradesh, police said today.

The victim, identified as Dr Ajit Kumar, has registered an FIR in this regard with the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. Kumar is associated with the Department of Orthopaedics and Physiotherapy at the premier medical institute.

Kumar's bank account was hacked after he clicked on a link in a phishing mail on December 8 last year and entered his online banking details.

Kumar said in the complaint that after he had provided his banking details, his account was hacked and he received SMSs about online transactions made using his money.

Thereafter he blocked his ATM and net banking ID and approached police.

During technical surveillance, police learnt that 10 mobile numbers in eastern UP were recharged with Rs 3,000 each using Kumar's bank account details.

All the IP addresses through which the transactions were made were found to be in Pakistan, police added.

"We have registered a case and are trying to track the mobile numbers which were recharged using the hacked account," said a police official.
