The Cabinet Committee on Accommodation (CCA) today allotted government houses in Delhi to the chief ministers of Assam and Telangana while cancelled that of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbahadra Singh.
The allotment of bungalow to Virbhadra Singh at 1 Jantar Mantar Road was cancelled since the decision of CCA of 1988 does not allow allotment of houses for CMs, sources said.
Exemption has been given to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who has been allotted a Type-C 1 facility, since the state Bhawan is under construction.
Telangana CM K Chandrasekhrara Rao has been allowed to retain the bungalow at 23, Tughlak Road, which was allotted to him when he was a Union Minister, as Telangana does not have a state Bhawan.
The only other chief minister occupying a government house in Delhi is Uttarakhand's Harish Rawat who was earlier allowed to retain the house on medical ground for one year period, which expires in June this year.
The CCA also cancelled allotments of bungalows of five MPs - Sanjay Singh (Rajya Sabha), Askh Ali Tak (RS), K C Tyagi (RS), BK Hari Prasad (RS) and Udayan Raje Bhonsle (Lok Sabha) - as they have been staying in houses of higher category than their entitlement.
The MPs are eligible for Type-V accommodation but have been staying in Types-VI B and VII bungalows. "Their allotments have been cancelled because it is not in conformity with rules. However, as MPs they are entitled to government accommodation and accordingly they will be provided as per their entitlement," an official said.
The CCA, headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, comprises Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
The Type-VII Bungalow (1, Canning Lane) allowed to be retained by Saroj Kumari, wife of former Union Minister Arjun Singh with effect from September 3, 2014 to September 2, 2016, has also been cancelled since retention period allowed in death cases is only for six months.
